Experience Barnsley Museum, Town Hall, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2TA
The Museum and Discovery Centre is in Barnsley town centre, a short walk from the transport interchange and railway station, and is easily accessible from Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Sheffield.
There is plentiful public parking located near to Experience Barnsley. The nearest car parks are located at Westgate S70 2DL, County Way S70 2JW, Graham's Orchard S70 2ST, Churchfield S70 2DQ and St Mary's Place S70 2DP.
The entire museum is accessible by wheelchairs and by most mobility scoots. The museum is accessed via its entrance next to Barnsley PALS Centenary Square. Two wheelchairs are also available to use for anybody who needs them. You can get these from the museum visitor centre, or you can book them in advance by calling 01226 772500.
There are two lifts available for public use. There are public toilets on all levels of the town hall, including two disabled toilets and a Family Welfare/Baby Changing Room on the ground floor.
The museum and town hall has dementia friendly signage. The museum and all of our staff are working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly organisation as part of the Dementia Friendly Barnsley campaign, in partnership with Barnsley Dementia Action Alliance and the local Alzheimer’s Society.
We are working towards improving our facilities for those with visual and hearing impairments. At present, many of our films and displayed are captioned or subtitled. Our visually impaired visitors may benefit from our interactive and textured puzzles and also our selection of audio displays which you will find all around the museum.
