Memory Café at Berneslai Café

A very special event is taking place at the Berneslai Café located in Barnsley’s iconic Town Hall on Sunday, 28 August from 11 am until 2 pm.

Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club has sponsored a Memory Café, which will be a social event for people suffering with dementia and their families and carers.

At the event, visitors will be served tea, coffee, sandwiches and scones, along with other tasty treats. Those attending can share information, socialise with friends and even have the opportunity to make new ones.

There will be entertainment from singer Susan St Nicholas and archive films of Barnsley will also be screened.  Whilst there guests can also take a look around Experience Barnsley, an award winning social history museum.

There are thirty free places available for the event and those who would like to attend can contact  Kathy Markwick, member of Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, on 0114 2830827 or 0772 9528844.

Kathy Markwick, Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, said: “I am delighted to have the support of the Rotary Club for such a special occasion and I am really looking forward to the inaugural event.”

The Mayor, Councillor Linda Burgess said: “It is really important that events such as this take place. We want to offer those living with dementia and their carers interesting and enjoyable places to go, but also it is vital to raise awareness of the need to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia.”
