Artists appointed for Somme Commemoration project

Artists, musson+retallick, have been appointed by Barnsley Council to create a piece of public art. It has been funded as part of an Arts Council grant to support the delivery of the town’s new Public Arts Strategy. The piece commissioned will remember the many brave soldiers who fell in the Battle of the Somme which took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916.

A talk about one of Barnsley’s most fascinating families will be taking place at Experience Barnsley, on Monday, 18 April. During the Meet the Harveys talk, which begins at 7pm and ends at 8.30pm, people will discover more about the lives of the generous local family. They will also find out how a collection of beautiful Old Master paintings was kindly donated to the people of the town.

Join in the fun as the Look North fundraiser travels through Barnsley

There are lots of great things planned to take place in Barnsley on Thursday, 10 and Friday, 11 March, to celebrate the arrival of BBC Look North presenters Harry Gration and Paul "The Weatherman" Hudson. The duo will be traveling through the town in their attempt to cross Yorkshire tied together, all in aid of Sports Relief.

On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 March, BBC Look North presenters Harry Gration and Paul "the weatherman" Hudson will be travelling through Barnsley in their attempt to cross Yorkshire tied together, all in aid of Sport Relief. Their three-legged walk will take 9 days and cover over 120 miles across North, South and West Yorkshire.

Historic scroll comes to Barnsley

A precious document relating to the life of Barnsley engineer Joseph Locke has been acquired at auction in Edinburgh and donated to Barnsley Archives and Local Studies. The money which was used to purchase the important artefact was raised by the Friends of Barnsley Archives through their tireless fundraising.

Launch of the Barnsley Museums Heritage Trust

The launch of the Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust will take place in the town’s award winning museum, Experience Barnsley, on Thursday 18 February. The Trust has been established as a fundraising body for Barnsley Museums. It will not have responsibility for operating the museums or managing staff . The main objective of the organisation is to raise money to support the wonderful venues, collections and the activities and programmes run by the service.
