Having five museum sites across Barnsley means that we are able to give children special opportunities to discover and learn new things.
Barnsley Museums Learning offers a wide range of workshops for Primary and SEN school groups which support learning across the curriculum, including Local History, Art, Science, English, Design and Technology. Pupils develop their skills through a range of activities including handling, drawing, writing, observation, discussion and immersive experiences. Our museum sites are Cannon Hall Museum, Cooper Gallery, Elsecar Heritage Centre, Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre, Worsbrough Mill Museum and Country Park.
We want children to get to know the local museums on their doorstep and to feel inspired by what they find. Young people tell us that they like museum visits because they help to improve their relationships with their classmates and teachers, giving them the chance to get to know each other better in a unique environment. Our programme is work in progress and we want to provide an excellent service which really meets the ongoing, changing needs of schools, teachers and pupils.
We welcome home educators and can provide sessions exclusively for mixed ages of children. If you have any enquiries, don't hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help.
