What People Are Saying

"Another family visit to the Barnsley Experience, the kids ask to go there every time we are in town! It's just a lovely little museum that reflects our town; we need more places like this! The fountains outside are fab and the kids loved playing in them in summer, look great lot up at night too."

"My wife and I visited this new museum with two friends from London. The two of us used to live in Barnsley and found the museum so interesting that after a good two hours we intend to make another visit as there is so much to see and do. I found the section on Barnsley Football Club particularly interesting as I have a season ticket. Our friends from London said that their visit was well worth while and they found a photograph of a relative which the staff willingly copied for them. This is a museum like no other I have been to. There is a cafe with good reasonably priced food and a gift shop. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Just outside the Town Hall is a new memorial to the Barnsley Pals and new fountains play. Also a new sculpture, nicknamed 'The Comb' all making a visit really worthwhile. Barnsley are setting an example for other local authorities to follow."

"This is a fantastic new museum that is very child friendly. It is a great place, even if you don't come from Barnsley. The gift shop is very reasonable and the wonderful cafe, serving lite bites for lite prices overlooks the new Barnsley pals memorial and fountains. It's easy to see Barnsley as a place to miss on a trip to Doncaster or Sheffield but this museum and the town markets are a hidden treasure in south Yorkshire."

MUSEUMS ASSOCIATION

"At Experience Barnsley (great museum, odd name) I was moved. I laughed out loud, I swallowed hard on a lump in my throat, I welled up and I felt a sense of belonging that I can't ever recall feeling in a museum or gallery...

"The clever combination of real people telling real stories runs through this museum and strikes an emotional chord and makes it a winner. Other museums could do well to learn from it." - Sharon Heal - Editor of Museums Journal
