Winner confirmed for Experience Barnsley’s fifth birthday competition

Experience Barnsley, the award-winning museum, will celebrate its fifth birthday on Wednesday, 27 June 2018.

To mark the occasion the museum held a poster competition with local schools to celebrate Experience Barnsley’s birthday. The Mayor of Barnsley Cllr Jeff Ennis judged the entries and picked Reese Fenton from Cawthorne C of E Primary School as the overall competition winner. The poster and elements from the design will be used on all Experience Barnsley’s publicity material in the run-up to its birthday.

Reese’s fantastic winning artwork features a birthday cake covered in candles and images representing Experience Barnsley, from Barnsley’s iconic Town Hall tower to recent exhibitions such as Egypt.

Experience Barnsley’s birthday falls in the middle of Barnsley's History Festival, which runs from Saturday 23 June until Saturday 30 June. The final day of the festival will mark the annual Barnsley History Day and celebrate Experience Barnsley’s fifth birthday in style. From family activities, film shows and special talks to displays and stands where you can discover more about your local history, there really will be something for all the family.

The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Jeff Ennis said: “It was a great pleasure to judge the poster competition for Experience Barnsley’s birthday. Reese’s artwork really stood out with its vibrant colours and intricate detail to represent Experience Barnsley.”
