Barnsley Museums invites you to the online film premier of ‘Barnsley – A portrait of the town and its people’

Barnsley Museums are launching their first online film premier with a free showing of ‘Barnsley – A portrait of the town and its people’. The iconic film will be screened on Wednesday, 15 April at 7pm via their Facebook page @ExperienceBarnsley. Taking place as part of their wider digital programme, which will keep people connected and create communities while at home, it is a unique and heart-warming look at life in the town during the early 1960s.

Significant book relating to leading local figure is donated to Barnsley Archives and local studies

An important manuscript tribute book relating to leading local figure Sir Walter Spencer-Stanhope (1827-1911) of Cannon Hall has been generously purchased by the Friends of Barnsley Archives and added to their outstanding collections. The book, which is now available to researchers, features tributes to Sir Walter and obituaries from newspapers all over the country offering a glimpse into his social standing as a highly regarded politician, campaigner and philanthropist.

TOWN HALL BLUEPRINTS UNDERGO VITAL RESTORATION WORK

Historic plans relating to Barnsley’s iconic Town Hall have recently undergone vital conservation work. After almost 90 years, the original blueprints were in need of specialist restoration work to ensure that they will survive for future generations to use and enjoy.
