Opening times

From Monday, 6 November, Experience Barnsley’s openings will change until further notice. The museum will now be closed on Mondays, and will open at the later time of 10:00 between Tuesdays and Fridays until 16:00. Opening hours on Saturdays will remain 10:00-15:30.

Barnsley Archives and Local Studies in the Discovery Centre is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 10am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-4pm and Tuesdays 10am-12.30pm & 1.30pm-6pm

Gift Shop

Purchase a wonderful range of Barnsley themed gifts from the Museum shop including beautiful greeting cards, local history books, souvenirs, home wear, children’s toys, games and sensory items.

The Old George at the Town Hall

An independent coffee shop serving breakfast, lunch, brunch and cakes. Speciality teas plus a fine selection of soft drinks.

Open Monday to Friday 9-4 

Saturday closed for events only.

Sunday closed.

Parking

There is lots of town centre parking available close to the museum, many of which are free at the weekend. They include Gateway Plaza, Peel Parade, Sacksville Street and Market Hill.

Do I have to book a ticket?

No just pop along and see us no booking required!

Are there toilet facilities?

There are lots of facilities around the building.

We have accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility available at the venue. 

I don’t feel comfortable returning yet. How can I engage with the museum without physically visiting?

We will be continuing our digital work including virtual tours and events.

Can I Volunteer?
