Album launch and premier at the Parkway Cinema

Tickets are now available for a unique event at the Parkway cinema that combines the launch of new material by Simon Armitage and LYR, and a new radio ballad both of which are inspired by stories of Eldon Street in Barnsley Town Centre.

On Thursday, 14 September guests will gather to hear the radio ballad in its first listen-through, in the setting of one of Eldon Street’s best-loved historic buildings.

The ballad is a collection of stories from Eldon Street intertwined with music and new work by Simon and LYR into a beautiful celebration of this historic part of Barnsley Town Centre.

Simon will say a few words about his residency and the work that was created as part of it.

Guest will have a unique opportunity to buy one of the first copies of the vinyl, which will be available to purchase on the evening.

As a prelude guests can enjoy a shadow puppet performance by Fettle and Fable in keeping with the theme of animal encounters and unnatural history.

The event is not-for-profit and the £5 ticket sales will include a limited edition goodie bag designed by artist Patrick Murphey.

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “We’re proud and delighted to see the stories of Eldon Street elevated onto an international stage. This event will be a wonderful way to celebrate the work created as part of Simon’s residency with the Heritage Action Zone made possible through local people sharing their stories. We hope people will come along to join us for this special event in such a unique venue.”
