Launch of the Barnsley Museums Heritage Trust

The launch of the Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust will take place in the town’s award winning museum, Experience Barnsley, on Thursday 18 February. The Trust has been established as a fundraising body for Barnsley Museums. It will not have responsibility for operating the museums or managing staff . The main objective of the organisation is to raise money to support the wonderful venues, collections and the activities and programmes run by the service.

Barnsley will be serving up a smashing summer of ping pong

Ping! the nation’s favourite ping pong festival will be hitting the streets of Barnsley for five fun filled weeks, beginning Saturday, 11 June. Barnsley is one of five new locations chosen to host the spectacular event, along with major cities such as Manchester and Newcastle. In total 21 towns and cities around the UK will see the ping pong extravaganza arrive.

You are invited to Meet the Harveys

Experience Barnsley will be revealing more about one of the town’s most influential and generous families at their new exhibition, Meet the Harveys. On display from Wednesday, 3 February until Wednesday, 20 April will be a history of the family, along with highlights from their stunning collection of artworks. These include old masters by artists such as Canaletto and Hogarth, gifted to the people of the borough.

Selfridge style arrives at Experience Barnsley

With the forthcoming series of Mr Selfridge about to begin on Sunday 10 January, some of the glitz and glamour from the stylish series has arrived at Experience Barnsley. Props, memorabilia and exquisite clothing have been kindly donated to the museum by Barnsley born actress Katherine Kelly, who stars in the hit television series.
